DEFINITION: The most common of several kinds of edible bananas, this long yellow, slightly sweet fruit is eaten raw or fried and used to make cakes, desserts and smoothies.

COMMENT: Brazil's favorite fruit, banana is found everywhere in the country. Although its name, both in Portuguese and in English, may sound weird since this is one of the largest varieties of the fruit, the reference is made to the height of the pseudostem, not to the fruit.
